Gov. Kate Brown on Wednesday appointed Eloisa Miller as her economic and business equity manager.

Miller will be an adviser to the governor tasked with tackling problems facing Oregon businesses owned by minorities, women and service-disabled veterans, according to a statement from the governor's office.

A spokesman for Brown said Miller will report to Serena Stoudamire, who is director of diversity, equity and inclusion. Janet Soto held a similar position in the governor's office, but left this spring.

Miller comes to the state government from Portland Public Schools, where she managed equity in public purchasing and contracting for the school district. She was also a procurement specialist at ODOT for more than seven years. Her start date is Oct. 24.
