The car-sharing service ReachNow is expanding its service area to include the St. Johns neighborhood of North Portland and an area around Portland Community College's Sylvania campus.
BMW-backed ReachNow is claiming territory ceded by its primary competitor, Car2go, which pulled out of St. Johns in 2015. Both companies offer service at the Southwest Portland community college.
"Our expansion to St. Johns and PCC Sylvania provide a solution for areas of the city that were underserved by car sharing," ReachNow Portland manager Alan Bates said in a statement.
ReachNow launched in September and says its fleet now includes 350 vehicles (to Car2go's more than 450), and it says its Portland members are twice as active as those in its home city of Seattle.
