Guest columnist Brad Martin ("Buehler hasn't delivered for Oregonians," August 4) gets an "A" for effort, but he's battling an uphill fight. How do I know? Because my wife -- who could be the poster child for the liberal, President Trump-hating, Oregon female voter -- is voting for Rep. Knute Buehler.
The problem with Martin's analysis is that when one is in the minority party, it is difficult to lead. Gov. Kate Brown, on the other hand, has to explain her inability to even begin to address the Democratic majority's multiple failures -- a $25.3 billion unfunded Public Employees Retirement System liability, millions of dollars wasted in an Energy Department credit debacle, millions of dollars lost in the Columbia River Crossing project, millions of dollars down the drain in Cover Oregon, millions of dollars lost by paying Medicaid benefits to ineligible recipients, a failed Low Carbon Fuel Standard program costing untold millions at the gas pumps, third worst high school graduation rate in the country, a foster care program in shambles, a homeless problem Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler calls intractable, fiscal inability to prepare for an earthquake -- the list is endless. Regardless of party, people -- including my Democratic wife -- are tired of it.
Martin says of Brown, "We know where she stands." He is right about that, which is why she will lose.
