PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A group calling itself “Rachel Corrie’s Ghost Brigade” is claiming responsibility for an arson that burned 17 Portland police cars last week.

But Rachel Corrie’s father, Craig Corrie, told KOIN 6 News they do not support the group in any way and do not support the group using her name.

Rachel Corrie was an American activist from Olympia, Washington who was killed in 2003 while protesting the Israeli Army’s destruction of Palestinian houses in Gaza. She was crushed by an Israeli bulldozer and died.

Craig Corrie said his daughter would not have wanted this group to use her name.

“I guess there’s nothing I can say to them,” Craig said Monday. “No, it’s just wrong. They’ve co-opted Rachel’s name for use they would never, ever have approved of.”

He helps run the Rachel Corrie Foundation, which works to support grassroots efforts for peace and justice globally.
