Today on Your Voice Your Vote, we're starting with one of the most divisive topics in our country, it's one that almost everyone has a firm opinion about, gun laws.
Democrats are sponsoring a package of gun measures currently moving through the Oregon legislature.
The package is made up of three bills:
- House Bill 2005, which would ban ghost guns. These guns are undetectable and untraceable.
- House Bill 2006, which would raise the age to buy and possess certain guns from 18 to 21. The proposal has exemptions for firearms used for hunting and for people younger than 21 who are in the military or police officers.
- House Bill 2007, would give cities and counties the ability to restrict guns in public buildings, even concealed carry.
The gun violence prevention package is currently in the house judiciary committee.
We're going to hear from a Democrat who supports the package and a Republican who opposes it.
Here to discuss the proposed gun bills, Democrat Representative Paul Evans.
He is a military veteran and gun owner and helped craft the bills.
Also joining me is Republican Representative Lily Morgan from Grants Pass.
She was a reserve deputy with the Josephine County Sheriff's Office and also worked as a parole and probation program supervisor.
Thanks to both of you for coming on the program.
