People living on Juniper Ridge have been using the canal that runs through the area for drinking water, bathing and washing laundry, according to county documents obtained by The Bulletin.

As commissioner (and Californian real estate heiress) Patti Adair gets into her convertible Porsche, I'm sure she really cares about the underprivileged. She wants Bend to be Beverly Hills and sweep these people away from site. Never mind affordable housing as long as the wealthy can buy a 3bdrm/2 bath for $700,000.

“. . . after realizing it violated its own health and safety standards by allowing people to live there.” Yeah, several years after the fact. Dirt World was one of the spots that people fled to after a spring 2020 sweep of Juniper Ridge. By my reckoning, at least 3 years have come and gone in which disease could have spread and malaria could have broken out--or any of the other scary things ginned up by unknown County functionaries.

So, why now are they contemplating still another sweep of unhoused people? Still another disruption of their lives? Still another traumatic cutting off of access to services and medical care?

And they are doing this in the wake of their shameful flip-flop over green lighting a facility for medically fragile people in south Bend. Sleep well with your $90,000+ salaries, Commissioners.

Tony DeBone, who was blase about protecting the community against Covid-19, now suddenly is waving the flag of public health. Phil Chang's statement is very disappointing. Can he--or any other official calling for this sweep--guarantee that the people "removed" will end up in circumstances more salubrious for them and the larger community?

Is there a reason the County can't put the managed camp in Southwest Bend they nixed on this property? I am frustrated by the lack of creative thinking and urgency by our elected leaders in reducing homelessness in our community.

County commissioners, administrators and the county’s legal counsel were all made aware of the code violations on March 31, according to the documents

Ha. I’ve been telling them and all the other officials about this for 15 years

Well Phil Chang, you’re the one who had been elected, and is being paid a lot of money to solve these problems. If you’re not producing any solutions then we better get someone else who will get off their butt, stop making excuses, and get to work producing results.

There are 3 commissioners. Better look to DeBone and Adair as they are the no votes on anything to do with helping our houseless individuals. The county is a weak piece of work, yet DeBone and Adair voted themselves a huge pay raise. Chang voted against it, he at least has a some honor when it comes to working and doing a job.

Pushing them into the city? Bend wants the money Salem sent out to triage this situation. Don't be slow!
