PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Dr. John McLoughlin, also known as the “Father of Oregon” for his role in shaping the Pacific Northwest, would’ve turned 235-years-old this October 19 — and people are happy to celebrate.
The McLoughlin Memorial Association joined together with the National Park Service to put on several special events at the McLoughlin House Unit of Fort Vancouver in Oregon City.

“John McLoughlin’s birthday is a time to remember the significant role he, and his family, played in the history of the Pacific Northwest, including management of the colonial trading post of Fort Vancouver, support for American immigrants coming across the Oregon Trail, and the establishment and growth of Oregon City,” said Tracy Fortmann, Superintendent of the National Historic Site.
There were tours, games, costumes and more at the event.
