The Oregon Health Authority reported 1,218 new coronavirus cases in the state on Friday. The daily report brings the state's total to 348,766 cases since the pandemic first began.
There were only two counties that reported more than 100 new daily cases -- Multnomah County and Marion County.
Health officials also reported 20 new deaths, bringing Oregon's death toll from the virus to 4,161.
Hospitalizations across the state dropped by a dozen compared to Thursday's report. According to the OHA, there are currently 563 COVID-19 patients in the state's hospitals. Of those, there are 136 patients in Intensive Care Unit beds, which is 10 fewer than yesterday.
Also on Friday, officials confirmed that the Oregon National Guard members who were deployed to hospitals across the state earlier this year to help staff cope with surging caseloads are gradually winding down their operations. The decision to pull guard members is made on a case-by-case basis as hospitals determine their individual staffing needs in coordination with the Oregon Health Authority, according to the ONG.
As vaccinations continue in Oregon, the OHA says as of Friday, nearly 2.8 million people have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and more than 2.5 million people have completed a vaccine series. Oregon has administered the following totals of the three vaccines:
- 3,156,158 doses of Pfizer
- 1,927,927 doses of Moderna
- 222,453 doses of Johnson & Johnson
The OHA released its newest COVID-19 modeling report on Friday, which projected decreases in daily cases, as well as hospitalizations. You can view the full report online here.
